The regular aesthetically pleasing cup will be 100% Biodegradable through the use of cornstarch as material, both body and lid. The consumer will still be able to enjoy their beverage without leakage

Using the material polylactic acid (PLA), which is made from fermented sugars, usually from cornstarch, the cup will be 100% biodegradable which is important as it in turn is environmentally sustainable. When disposed of the cup will break down into carbon dioxide and water within several months. It is easy to produce, cheap, and can be transported easily. Corn is the least expensive and most abundant source of commercially available sugar. There can be minimal expense to the aesthetic of the cup, allowing users to feel more comfortable with the change.

Not only will the Australian general public benefit, but the recycling plants will benifit as they will no longer have to sort through the current plastic lined cups (as they are non-recyclable), as well as the ocean where many of the cups and straws end up in Australia.
