Idea Title

It's a Brewtiful World!

Idea Summary

People will be charged for coffee and a deposit (for a reusable cup) that they can get back when they return the cup.

Company / Organization Name (if applicable)

Troy High School

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

I want to redesign the coffee cup distribution. I want to require people to use a reusable cup by serving in everybody their coffee in one. When people order their coffee they are charged a deposit fee of what it cost to make it. When the person is done with their coffee they can turn it back in and get the deposit back. If the person brings their own they won't be charged the deposit fee and they could get $0.20 off their drink. People can keep the cup if they don't want to get the deposit back because they paid for it.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • Reusable System

How is your concept recoverable?

This solves the existing recover-ability problem by making people use reusable cups so there is no there is no waste from paper or plastic cups. This would encourage people to see where they can reduce waste in their lives.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

The reusable cups could be made from a recycled materials to help reduce waste products. The outer-lining of the cups could be made from recycled plastic.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

I think this could be used for coffee franchises and possibly local shops. My idea plans to address to get rid of the paper or plastic cup entirety by making people invest in their own reusable cup of returning the one they borrow.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

People who want to be more eco-friendly and can't think of ways and don't have time due to their busy lives.

I doubt this idea will be successful because it would require you to trust both the other customers and the staff to properly keep the cup clean and to wash it.

If you think about it, every time we eat out at a restaurant we trust the kitchen staff to clean the dishes before they reuse them on the next customers.
