Idea Summary

AromaLid's unique design features improve the flavour and taste, allows natural drinking from the rim and seals drink safely until needed.

Company / Organization Name (if applicable)

Website (if applicable)

Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

Turbulence Tamers Ltd has designed, patented( pending) and prototyped an innovative new reusable cup lid, AromaLid, that improves the taste of beverages, increases safety by reducing the chances of spillage and offers a natural drinking style that doesn’t require the user to ‘suck drinks’ through a small hole ( as with conventional cup lids).

There is a strong environmental reason  for us to use reusable cups and lids and reduce single-use plastics. AromaLid’s enhanced design features allow it to fit almost all reusable cups and offers the user an improved product, enhancing the enjoyment of drinking ones’ favourite beverage. It could be purchased as a stand alone item to upgrade/replace the poor sip-lids that come with current cups or be purchased as a ready-to-use cup & lid package.

AromaLid can be fitted to a wide range of cups, such as Bamboo Fibre, Rice Husk, Glass, China, Plastic……..etc.

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • Cup Lids

How is your concept recoverable?

AromaLid reduces plastic waste as it is a reusable product and acts as a replacement for disposable, single-use lids. It can be made from sustainable materials such as bamboo fibre, recovered plastics and bio-degradable materials.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

Future developments of the AromaLid could include the use of RFID technologies to track orders, allow cashless payments, track calorific intake, and simplify ordering. By using bio-friendly materials such as rice husk, bamboo fibre and recovered/recycled materials it will be possible to manufacture AromaLid with less impact on our environment.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

Single use plastic products such as lids are causing pollution issues world-wide. Any products that help remove/reduce such waste will be of enormous benefit to our world.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

AromaLid is particularly well suited to large office environments that have coffee outlets such as Starbucks, Costa etc. Sites at airports, stations and motorways are also major target markets for AromaLid and secondary B2B/B2C sales to customers wishing to 'upgrade' to the AromaLid.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing
  • Prototyping
  • Piloting

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

The prototypes we have to date are working well. The lid is spill-resistant at the moment and I would like to perfect the closure of the lid to make it 100% spill-proof for transportation and have a number of ideas to try to achieve this. Access to markets is something that I could really do with some help. Getting the right person on the phone is really challenging for a small business.

Please describe how becoming a Top Idea will support the growth of your concept.

Becoming a Top Idea would help accelerate the process of trial and error prototyping and allow for faster routes to manufacturing and to market. To work with experts in retail ,design, manufacturing and invention would be a great bonus.
