Please include a visual (can be either 2D or 3D) representation/prototype of your concept. (required)

Consumer will receive a token of the appropriate kind, for example in the form of a wooden coin, which will give him the right to a discount when buying the next portion of the drink in a paper cup

This solution addresses which of the following:

  • Hot / Cold Fiber Cup
  • Cup Lids
  • Straws
  • Cup Sleeve
  • Cup Liner

How is your concept recoverable?

In order to stimulate consumers to make a responsible disposal of used paper cups, it is necessary to monetarily interest them. Also, it is necessary to interest owners of disparate retail outlets to take in "strangers" cups. These problems are solved by entering the collateral price of a paper cup. When properly aisposing of paper cup, the consumer will receive a token of the appropriate kind, for example in the form of a wooden coin, which will give him the right to a discount when buying the next portion of the drink in a paper cup. In order to minimize financial mismanagement when collecting and paying the collateral price, it is proposed to place a container for the intake of exclusively disposable paper cups near every sales point selling drinks. In the event that the consumer still throws the cup into the environment - collateral payment will go to the cleaning fund.

How have you incorporated additional sustainability attributes (beyond recoverability) into your solution?

The introduction of a collateral price for paper cups puts a person in front of a choice: to throw a paper cup anywhere and to lose it's cost, paid upfront, or to take the used cup to the appropriate receiving point and receive a material bonus for it. The regional network of such items will accept all used cups regardless of their place of receipt, that is from all sellers, which will allow to effectively localize such type of waste in specialized containers.

What regions do you plan to address with your solution (and how will you accomplish this)?

Our approach to replacement cup lids can be applied anywhere in the planet Earth.

Describe your target market. Who will benefit from your product?

This will simplify the lives of consumers who will not need to look for specifically "their" recycling point. The introduction of collateral price for disposable paper cups will stimulate their delivery to recycling points, and in case of throwing cups into the environment, it will be possible to use the funds for their collection and recycling/proper disposal. We charge the consumer upfront for the fact that then a cup will be thrown away by him, a paid labourer will find in a distant dark forest and deliver to a recycling point. When the consumer himself hands over the cup to the point of recycling - we provide, or return, to him a bonus equivalent to the amount of collateral.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Research & Early Testing
  • Prototyping

What are the biggest challenges you are facing today? What are existing gaps in your solution?

Since there are a lot of retail outlets in the city with different pricing policies, different tax schemes and paper cups of varying value, a method is needed to encourage these trading institutions to collect all of the disposable paper cups. If necessary, in coordination with the state fiscal authorities, it will be possible to arrange also the direct payment of money for the tokens. In addition, a token in the form of a wooden coin will serve as an original souvenir for tourists.
