Two stories were read in BBC Bangla's reports about the success in saving new Moms lives from delivery time bleeding. In every 2 minutes on earth one Mom is passing away during pregnancy to delivery time. Bleeding is the main cause. But the previously available technology to control bleeding was not so cheap. The stories mentioned a cheap and simple technology of less than 5 dollar to control the situation successfullly and save the Moms from unexpected death. The technology was applied by Dr. S.Akter 14 years ago first in Bangladesh and gradually being appreciated in many countries. From the beginning the method has 100% success in controlling bleeding and saving life. (BBC Bangla/ref.)It not only help many mothers to sustain, it contributes to the sound mental and physical health of mothers and babies too. This has inspirations particularly for many developing countries in reducing maternal death rate. Bangladesh has noteworthy success in controlling Maternal Mortality Ratio(MMR) from 569 in 1990 to 176 in 2015 with an average annual reduction of 4.7%. (AL/ref). Though the ratio of skilled birth attendants also increased from 12% in 2000 to 42% in 2014, the new method to stop blood is not yet known among many practitioners.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

It inspires the effort to bring the technology among the parents and among both skilled and unskilled birth attendants. This inspire to train up institutional nurses and to form trained teams to visit and teach all attendants in remote areas.

How does this research relate to our use cases and personas?

The under resourced Moms will be able to avoid early death or losing uterus. Their newborns as well as the surrounding family members will get benefits. In many cases the average socio-economic data do not represent the condition of mass people.(openideo/ref) In fact many women do not have insurance and can't avail skilled birth attendants. Knowledge of the method of using condom to stop bleeding can help to have sound delivery of many newborns and can reduce maternal mortality rate.
