Stillbirth

A taboo topic that needs to be discussed.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

According to WHO an estimated number of 2.6 million stillbirths occur every year. More than a half happen in rural areas, 98% occur in low and middle income countries. Most stillbirths are preventable by good health and nutrition, a quality antenatal care, and a quality care during labour and childbirth.

How does this research relate to our use cases and personas?

This research is related to the under-resourced mom. What can be done to prevent stillbirth? How can psychological help for mothers and families be ensured to overcome this tragedy?

Hi Sascha!

Welcome to the challenge!

Would you be able to tell me the source of information for the following so our community can find out more?

'According to WHO an estimated number of 2.6 million stillbirths occur every year. More than a half happen in rural areas, 98% occur in low and middle income countries.

Is it - http://www.who.int/maternal_child_adolescent/epidemiology/stillbirth/en/?

Also, is there any chance you could find an image to go along with it? Images help grab attention and tell a story. You should be able to use the Edit Contribution button on the top of your post and follow the instructions to add images from there. Looking forward to seeing more of your inspiring insights on OpenIDEO.

Hello Kate,

yes this is the right link.
There also is an infographic that you can find here:
http://www.euro.who.int/en/health-topics/Life-stages/maternal-and-newborn-health/data-and-statistics/infographic-stillbirths-a-neglected-tragedy

and a pdf "making every baby count" that you can download here:

I´ll try to find a picture that is appropriate.
