Back to School

The amount of retired and aging folks going back to school is such an extraordinary thing. A true inspiration for a younger generation.

I was truly inspired by this NYTimes piece back in 2008, but have recently read lots more about aging + retired folks returning to school for Undergraduate and Graduate degrees. Here's to hoping I'll make the move towards my Ph.D. in my 60s or 70s!

That's a great thing. Close to my city, exist a special university for people who are retired. To become mebers is very cheap, because the teachers are also retired peoples ! Ageing people are full of experience and knowlegde. Be able to share our knowlegde is a very nice opportunitie to be able to keep the feeling of being usefull !

I see a lot of potential for combining these two ideas (The Amazings model & going back to school). Maybe there could be schools where retired folks can take classes / earn advanced degrees for free, in exchange for teaching classes and sharing their own wisdom!

Fascinating read, Katie!

I wonder where social media would have moved to by the time we're in our 60's / 70s? Maybe we could enrol in the same class! Or who knows – maybe like The Amazings – we might be sharing some wisdom of how it was back in the day? (like, how cool is this guy? http://youtu.be/_UraYqrWR6s)
