Plays for Maternal Health

A series of plays illustrating maternal health issues (what to do, what not to do) put on by the local community (even by kids) to educate mothers. This could be a movement to put on plays in local areas and the mobile phone could be used to spread snippets of these plays amongst communities.

This might be a school curriculum activity, for kids to put on the plays for local mothers.

Oxfam could create scripts to show different situations in maternal health.

Mobility could be used to spread the word about when local plays are on. Also could be used to record and send videos of the plays to communities that don't have them.

What is the minimum level of mobile technology needed for this concept?

Message, video streaming and transmission.

How could this work in a low-literacy context?

This is about educating through live storytelling.

Which partners could help realise and deliver this solution?

  • Oxfam
  • Nokia
  • Mobile operators
  • NGOs

This is great, and builds off of successful Theatre for Development models, and incorporating mobile technology will increase scale and impact. It is especially effective in cultures that value oral traditions, and doesn't "force" the use of written text when there is this alternative that is probably a more compelling teaching tool.
