Remote doctor checkins via Flipcam

When the healthworker or doctor cannot make it to every village in person, they can send a Flipcam. Local villagers or worker can interview women at risk about their health status and send the video back to the doctor. If the doctor notices any issues, they can make a special visit or alert locals.

In situations where there are not enough healthworkers to go to every village, or the village is too far to travel to, they can send a Flipcam.

Local villagers or worker can interview women at risk about their health status and send the video back to the doctor. If the doctor notices any issues, they can make a special visit or alert locals.

Files could be transmitted via network or the worker could physically bring the Flipcam back.

Local workers could be trained to interview patients. Or this could inspire new lines of employment for locals to become hubs for remote doctor interviews.

What is the minimum level of mobile technology needed for this concept?

Mobile device with video capability. Possibly being able to transmit video via the network.

How could this work in a low-literacy context?

Women can tell their stories on video.

Which partners could help realise and deliver this solution?

  • Oxfam
  • Nokia
  • Mobile operators
  • NGOs
