Mum-2-Mum Chatline

A dial-in chatline for mothers to have a regular conversation with women in similar situations. The service arranges for a time and matches groups of women together. Mothers need to only dial a number and speak to the group.

Maybe it's all about voice communication. Let's make it as simple as possible by giving women a number they can dial into where they can have a regular chat with a similar group of women.

The service can match women based on interest, culture, location.

What is the minimum level of mobile technology needed for this concept?

Cheap voice calls on mobile.

How could this work in a low-literacy context?

Just 1 simple number and the mother can tell everything to the service by voice. Maybe there's someone at the other end who matches her with a group.

Which partners could help realise and deliver this solution?

  • Oxfam
  • Nokia
  • Mobile operators
  • NGOs

This is an interesting idea - almost like a spoken version of BabyCenter.com. What would be interesting is if these conversations could be a part of a searchable database. So if a 3 month pregnant woman dials in, she can have a set of FAQs specifically for her stage of the pregnancy.
