The Egg Producer's Code

In many countries in Europe, eggs are stamped with an identification code that says how and where it's produced.

This has also been discussed in the Jamie Oliver challenge if I remember correctly. But these codes make it very easy for consumers to trace the source of the egg. Something similar could be done for other foods as well.

Wow, I didn't know they did that. Our egg producers here in the US would fight that so hard! I wonder how much it raised the cost of eggs. (You know opponents would use that argument.)

Wow! Love this Arjan – I never knew. (though luckily I get mine from my neighbour's chooks just over the back fence ;^) I'd like to see this kind of tracking on most food stuffs I buy... though here in New Zealand it seems that big food corps have lobbied that idea to be dropped.
