The way we relate to food and to the environment starts with our experiences as children. Let's give city kids more chances to interact with nature and learn about how food is produced.

Sentimental connections can be extremely powerful. People need care about the environment if they are to take it into account in their food choices - since that often involves sacrificing variety or cost to eat locally. Children who grow up in cities and have little contact with nature may not develop a strong connection with the environment and therefore be less likely to value it. Let's think about how we can increase access to environmental and agricultural programs for city kids - urban gardens? field trips to farms?

Great inspiration Hannah. I remember my grandma and my parents used to teach me how to pick the right fruits and vegetables, by showing me how to recognize the right smell, the right color, the right firmness... Things I have never forgotten since then!
