People's Kitchen promoting sustainable eating

We throw away 8.3 mill tonnes of food a year which is very damaging to our environment and not a sustainable. Promoting recycling/reusing of waste food helps bring communities together by encouraging people to be more aware of what they are eating.

The People's Kitchen takes place each week to promote the recycling and reuse of left over food, community spirit and collaborative consumption. Waste and left over food which would have been thrown away is collected from local restaurants, shops and individuals and volunteers cook/prepare the food. Everyone is then welcome to come and eat the food for a donation of their choice.

Not only is environment helped but the community are are brought together and a fantastic atmosphere is created around waste food.

No, it takes place in an arts centre who are big on community building and reducing waste. The interesting thing about this initiative is that it is not just for those that cannot afford to eat but for anyone in the community. It appeals to a wide range of people and always creates a fantastic atmosphere!
