Using a smart phone customers can scan the barcode to learn more about the fruit/veggie of their choice. Others can look up their chosen produce through a unique URL.

The information listed would include the history of the food – what farm it came from, when it’s normally in season, and what it’s good for (which vitamins and which bodily processes they effect). Simple recipes that encourage eating more fresh produce would also be included.

This could also be done on printed materials available at point of purchase, however the tech component would be a more environmentally-friendly and efficient solution.

Nice concept. Have you seen the inspiration of the second hand clothing labels? It is really a nice way to connect buyers in a supermarket with the producers of the things they buy.

I really like the idea of incorporating the use of smartphones to tell stories. In Philadelphia, the Mural Arts Program uses the bar codes at some sites to this to tell more about the inspiration and meaning behind the beautiful images. Very effective and so interesting!
