Labeling organic and local food better with mobile devices

Surprisingly, it is still not very clear what organic or local food means for many people. We are actually quite busy checking the list of items we need or thinking about the budget at grocery. While most people are interested in organic and local food, they find it hard to justify the higher price. However, they might change once they get to know more about food production. What if there is an easy and fun way to explain how the food product in front of you produced?

In this prototype design, I used QR code just as an example for conveniently reaching online information. (I was partly inspired by the way we use barcode to pay our groceries.) When consumers get to see the farmers, place, and their food production methods with their mobile devices, it would much easier to understand and trust the benefit of organic and local food.

I also have a plan to add information graphics about the content of organic food as well as consumer feedback system to aid grocery shops and farmers.

I am enjoying this website so much. This is my first project in OpenIDEO challenge and it is so good to see many other people with similar ideas and notions.
