'Journey of Food' is a storytelling tool that utilizes a library of QR codes linked to database of food produced by local farmers and the details about that food including their sources, methods of production, distribution, and retail locations. This information will be used to create narratives, using viodes, mapping and relationship diagrams.

As a means of promoting local fresh food, separating it and branding it clearer against factory-processed and fast-food. I suggest a fictional "political campaign" with posters, information from both sides, debates and an election.

How to involve as much of the local population as possible? People can be put of by all kinds of factors when they are looking to get started with food production especially if they have never done it before and don't have access to land. A local group started guerilla gardening - it really raised the profile! Everyone in the town now knows about the issues, they see the herbs at the railway station and help themselves to a bunch on their way home. Fruit trees round the edge of the football pitch, at the local doctors surgery etc... http://www.incredible-edible-todmorden.co.uk/

(UPDATED)
A state funded TV advertising campaign that promotes a fun "I'm not from far away!" label. Local producers within the state have the option of purchasing the government subsidised label to include on their products if they would like to benefit from the exposure of the campaign.

Instead of having food festivals and farmers markets separate from one another, how about pair farmers and food vendors side-by-side at a combined farmers and food market, where chefs cook up tasty meals built from the farmer's bounty.

Utilizing the "What's Mine is Yours" idea from Collaborative Consumption as inspiration, this idea involves neighborhoods (who may already have a swapping or sharing system in place) to expand or create their swapping habits to include food.

Building upon the Cultivating Kids and Adopt-a-Local-Farmer concepts, this is the idea that farmers can be paired with children in schools to create a pen pal relationship which raises awareness at a young age.

Farms near urban communities could serve as the locales for summer camps. In addition to the recreational activities of arts and athletics, these camps would also offer the opportunity to take part in farm activities. Coupled with the positive associations of summer and bonding, campers would have the hands-on opportunity to learn more about how food is produced in an unique setting.

Being a member of Food Passport, an association of local farmers has allowed me to negotiate better prices with retail chains, use the shared packaging facilities, learn form best practices from other affiliates, distribute my products in the towns close to my plantation, and most important, have a clear and transparent communication with my final consumers.

The food passport keeps track of all the good things I do to my crops and how much love I put in my products. When customers see my food passport, they know to whom they are buying their food. This makes me feel proud.

A social networking website, (and app), that networks between consumers, vendors (grocers, restaurants), farms and reuse facilities. The primary function would be to map the process of food from farmer to vendors to consumers and into compost. The site would utilize consumer quality ratings of farms, vendors and recycling centers, and rate vendors and consumers con a scale of their local food habits.

Main goal: food transparency! Seeing the people and places related to the food we consume at our fingertips.

Building off of Orlando Leon's Food Park idea, this is a proposal to partner with the city to create a closed loop composting system. Like your regular garbage pick up, people can compost their vegetables, pizza boxes, fruits, etc. (no meat), the city will come pick up the compost on a bi-weekly basis, bring it to a facility where they will turn it into rich soil, package it up and sell it back to the local citizens via the Food Parks, nurseries, and local hardware stores.

Community Restaurant are solutions for people looking for a space to share with friends or colleagues, who are aware of the waste in energy and food produced by cooking at home for one person, and who are sensitive to environmental issues like food distribution.
If you want to help local food production and access convenient food, you will be fan of the community Restaurant near you.

Every time I buy a local product I get sustainable person credits. I can use this credits everywhere from discounts in gasoline taxes to discounts for renting bicycles in a vacations weekend. It is very easy to use, you just have to show your ID every-time you buy a local product and the market will register your data in a central database. you can check your credits by internet. If I get to 1000 credits per months I will get a certificate of local supporter and would get free entrance the farm festival this spring.

About the technology: Traceability systems, mobile technology and payment systems can support this application.

It's estimated 30% of food is wasted in production/ transport, 30% is wasted in retail and 30% wasted in households. Quality standards governed by regulations, service levels and laws means food produced does not reach the consumer. Food produced that does not meet these governance standards but is consumable can be offered to the consumer and not wasted.
