By bringing diverse people together, we can share new ideas and open ourselves to new ways of thinking. Everyone has knowledge to share. Everyone is an expert in their own experience. When we work together, we learn from each other and grow as individuals and communities.

Why do you want to be OpenIDEO's Visual and User Experience Designer?

I began my journey with a degree in economics because I enjoyed learning about how systems of people function. I worked towards a certificate in sustainable design where I helped develop a plan to create a creative industries district in a group of underutilized buildings. Seeing the power of design methods to solve complex challenges in the world, I pursued a masters degree in design. I am looking to increase the scope of my impact on the world by using design frameworks.

How many years of experience do you have?

  • Between 3 - 5 years of experience

How did you hear about this challenge?

I check on OpenIDEO to see what new projects are available and came across this one. I saw that it was just beginning and thought it was a good way to practice my design skills while also working on a challenge that interests me and is closely tied to other projects I have worked on in the past.

What did you learn when developing the deliverables in response to the design brief?

Even though the time I had to tackle this challenge was short, I learned to slow down the design process and allow myself time to reflect on the work I had done up to that point. Many times, designers, as well as others, do not give themselves the time for ideas to develop. It allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the message I was trying to convey and find a better way to communicate it.

I love the premise that everyone has something to share, it's at the heart of our purpose at OpenIDEO.
