Why do you want to be OpenIDEO's Visual and User Experience Designer?

Because I believe in the power of design to solve humanity's problems, and I want to be a part of creating those solutions. OpenIDEO is harnessing collective creativity to find solutions. I want to maximize this potential by making it look and sound as good as it can. I believe in people: collaboratively, our potential is exponential. I want to be the interpreter/facilitator of this brilliance.

How many years of experience do you have?

  • More than 5 years of experience

How did you hear about this challenge?

Christopher Krohn formally, Matthew Ridenour in spirit.

What did you learn when developing the deliverables in response to the design brief?

I learned a lot. You do cool stuff and I want to as well.

Above is the walkthrough of the User Experience Design I propose. Below is my executive summery punctuated by process and Mapping Images.

I focused on maximizing the potential of the OpenIDEO community and platform. The following is an engagement strategy based on the current context and user experience of the OpenIDEO member. The user experience goal is to streamline the accessibility of challenges by making important information easy to find, while also staying true to the existing architecture of the platform.

Wire Frames + Interface Design

I used original copy and photography, simply modifying the layout and user flow so that important information is more accessible and easily digested.

In an effort to increase user engagement numbers, I have outlined a strategic plan to inspire participants to join, empower them to contribute, activate  their networks, validate their contributions building an active community beyond the lifespan of a challenge. By looking at the current user experience and the potential ‘ideal’ experience, I identified opportunity spaces to enhance current members experiences and tap into their networks to bring new brains to OpenIDEO’s challenges.

Coupling this with context analysis of which practices work for organizations operating in this space, I propose small changes to empower participants, advocate for their ideas and to remain involved beyond the idea phase.

There are pull mechanisms designed to bring external expertise into solution refinement and achievement as well as means of activating members based on geographical proximity. How might we bring participants into solution achievement even if their idea wasn’t the finalist?

Participants invest not only ideas and creativity into OpenIDEO’s challenges but also time and passion. They should have a means of showing off their work and advocating for their ideas.  Participants can share their ideas on social media asking their friends to vote comment evaluate their contributions which will not only bring focus to individual contributions but also engage new like minded community members in finding solutions with OpenIDEO.
