Describe what you intend to do and how you'll do it in one to two sentences (required 350 Characters)
Gender Equality and Empowerment Network aims to provide doorstep immunization services to people in hard to reach areas in Lagos state, Nigeria, through mobile delivery trucks, to overcome barriers of distance, cost and time taken to access services at government hospitals. We will partner with the state minsitry of health for resources.
Explain the innovation (2,500 characters)
Which part(s) of the world does this innovation target?
The geographic focus is Lagos state, South Western part of Nigeria. Lagos state is a mega city with a popultion of about 10million people. The Lagos state Ministry of health records an immunization coverage of 60%, IYD aims to facilitate the coverage of those in hard-to-reach areas
Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)
We will engage the State Commissioner of Health and the respective Chief Medical Directors of each general hospital in the state; to collaborate on immunization kits, resources and personnel.
We will also engage with Lanre Shittu Motors for the procurement of mobile trucks.
How is your idea unique? (750 characters)
Project IYD is unique because it involves the use of mobile delivery trucks to give hard-to-reach areas access to immunization services rather than making use of foot soldiers. Most government interventions have been focused on using food soldiers to give immunization to children, however, this has been flaweddue to low coverage.
Moreover, IYD gives parents incentives and this improves acceptability in local settings.
IYD makes use of mobile phone services to prompt parents on next appointment, thereby ensuring continuity.
