Quirky: bringing 60 crowd-developed ideas to life in 1 year

Many amazing inspirations & concepts have emerged from OpenIDEO. There is so much potential for positive social impact if we can successfully spread & implement these ideas. 1 example of timely implementation of crowd-developed ideas is Quirky.

Quirky is a collaborative product development community platform that is bringing to market ~60 products/year. The community collaborates throughout the process: ideation, evaluation, design, naming, logo, manufacturing, packaging, marketing, sales, etc. The platform generates revenue from product sales & shares a portion of proceeds with community members based on how much they contributed to development, whether it be original ideation, evaluation, insightful comments, or idea builds. ~$1 million/year is paid out to community members, and Quirky has raised a total of $29 million in funding to continue to expand.

Given that Quirky is bringing a new idea to life every few days, is there anything that could be applied from their model to further realization of OpenIDEO ideas & maximize their positive impact?

Quirky looks nice, it seems however aimed at physical products only. Is there a similar initiative for web concept crowd development?
