Online networks vs. 'real world' meet ups

One if the best examples of social networking websites, which combines online and off-line networking is www.asmallworld.net. It is an 'invites only' network but some of features like 'geo-locator' and 'city guide' could easily be transferred

OpenIDEO consists of a great network of social activists, designers, creative thinkers and passionate community members. But wouldn't it be great if there was a smooth way to get the community to catch up in the 'Real World'? I imagine that would increase the social impact of the platform significantly.

How might we create a 'Real World' OpenIDEO, which compliments the online version?

Imagine a geo locator, which allows you to meet local OpenIDEO people when you are on holiday!

Imagine a travel guide which lists social projects and social businesses in the city you are traveling to on holiday!

Imagine a search engine, which allows you to locate and connect with any OpenIDEO community member. So you can for instance can locate "graphic designer" in Tokyo or "Social entrepreneur" in Caldas.

Love this inspiration. Asmallworld is so closed and selected, but to take inspiration from this for a much more open challenge is great!
