As many of the other inspirations mentioned, linking social impact to initiatives that take place around the world (DIY fairs, Tweet-ups, experiments, prototypes, etc.) is important. How about consolidating this information in the same platform?
Diving into realization, experimentation, prototyping is important. But so is giving it the right visibility, to keep inspiring the community to take those steps further ahead and help magnifying the impact of the causes we believe in and work for.
Something as simple as mapping (and directing to the right sources) that information would be very valuable. Many already existing platforms can help doing that (and for free!). I'm giving two of them as an example but I'm sure there are more that I'm not even aware of:
- Ushahidi (a non-profit software company that develops free and open source software for information collection, visualization and interactive mapping): http://www.ushahidi.com
- Google Maps and Google Earth (I'm sure most of you know) both allow developers and regular users to build ‘layers’ of information on top of the maps and share them with the world .
