When a Stanford alum donates to the Stanford Fund, a student who received financial aid from the fund send him or her a personal thank-you.

People who survived leukemia or another disease because of a bone marrow transplant can share personal thank-yous with people who join the registry. Doesn't have to be an entirely handwritten note, it could also just be a handwritten signature at the bottom of a typed page.
