Ripple Effects

Good deeds are often infectious and small acts can effect big social change. What existing campaigns, services, products have effected big change? How can these relate to increasing bone marrow donation?

Think about laughter or happiness having contagious qualities and subsequently affecting multiple people in a positive way.

What examples of ripple effects have you experienced or learned about? What makes an idea “sticky” or unforgettable? What starts a trend? These examples can be about anything (not just bone marrow donation) that we can use and learn from.

mGive helped to make the text for Haiti movement so easy and therefor hyper-successful. That's the kind of ripple effect that couldn't be any simpler!

I would highly encourage everyone participating in this challenge to familiarize themselves with the fascinating research of Professor Jennifer Lerner of Harvard University. She studies how emotions guide our decision making.

Given the opportunity girls living in poverty are uniquely capable of changing their lives and the lives of their brothers, sisters, communities and countries for the better. It's a ripple effect that's a revolution in the fight against poverty.

Many Muslims still believe that donating blood is against their religion. If campaigns focus on the principle of saving human lives, this might change radically their vision.

With one quick email to my family, (and in less than 3 days) two of them are newly registered donors. What if we made this a tradition?

The Pink Ribbon has become a universal symbol and fashion statement for breast cancer. Can we create a similar symbol for bone marrow? Can it be wearable or visible in daily life?

What if there is a volunteering campaign targeted to those who serve time in prison to register as donors? This could be a way for them to feel that they could contribute to the society in a very positive way by helping others and saving lives.

Building on Janice's mention of Carrotmob, I thought I'd point out the incredible network that Carrotmob has created to activate consumers to spend their money for good.

Story of a college athlete who defines success not by what he does on the field, but by how he impacts those around him. He's a hero and inspiration for his ability to leverage his popularity into a call for others to help.
