Ripple Effects

Good deeds are often infectious and small acts can effect big social change. What existing campaigns, services, products have effected big change? How can these relate to increasing bone marrow donation?

Good deeds are often infectious and small acts can effect big social change. What existing campaigns, services, products have effected big change? How can these relate to increasing bone marrow donation?

Think about laughter or happiness having contagious qualities and subsequently affecting multiple people in a positive way.

What examples of ripple effects have you experienced or learned about? What makes an idea “sticky” or unforgettable? What starts a trend? These examples can be about anything (not just bone marrow donation) that we can use and learn from.

The mayor of Newark, NJ, Cory Booker is an incredible role model for other US mayors and leaders in general. His investment in the city of Newark as a resident, neighbor, leader, mentor and so much more has created a city-wide ripple effect of good.

Videos of flash mobs often go viral very quickly. The message of bone marrow donation could be conveyed this way with a catchy song & dance.

In the U.S. on the first Tuesday of every November, people's shirt pockets suddenly explode with American flag icons and the words "I voted." How might we use a similar "I swabbed" campaign to inform and remind others?

Well designed infographics help people get a better, more thorough understanding of a problem. A bone marrow campaign would benefit from a strong infographic.

Get your cheek swabbed and get a free icon to put on your favorite social networking profiles. Flaunt your generosity, spread a message, and encourage others to do the same!

Encourage people to help enhance the lives of people around them by focusing people on their inner circles - they may not know the stranger they've just helped but are hoping that another stranger does the same for their loved one.

Using Badges on social networking sites that display donation status could turn the experience into a game, where collecting points equates to donating marrow, blood, organs, etc.

On world AIDS day, foursquare users could earn the Join(red) 2015 badge. A simple reward for helping the campaign to raise awareness and come closer to their goal of having an AIDS free generation by 2015.

Starbucks sells ~600,00 cups a day. That's ~18 million cups a month! Imagine how many people we could reach if a simple campaign to register was printed on a cup and/or a sleeve.
