Social Events with a Bonus: Professional gathering, Open Mic Night, Speed Dating ...

There are countless social events that happen on a regular basis that are already bringing young people together, especially people from select ethnic groups that might be underrepresented in bone marrow registries. Why not incorporate testing and awareness into these already existing events?

There is a regular South Asian Open Mic Night, Subcontinental Drift, that happens in cities across the U.S. -- D.C., Chicago, New York, and San Francisco. I for one, would be totally willing to get up on stage and swab my cheek and register as my two minute act, and perhaps if there was enough support to handle 60 + people registering at once, I am sure others could be encouraged to do the same. I imagine this would require a little bit of coordination with a bone marrow registry and cheek swab testing kits on site, but why not.

Other events to do similar calls to action could include: networking events (happy hours, breakfasts), dance competitions, professional conferences, creative workshops, music festivals, alumni gatherings, and many more!

Sure! I was thinking about it myself! Young people gather for concerts, gather for fun, gather for cinema.. why not use some of these gatherings to inform and show the procedure? With information and demonstration of the procedure we address fear! And doing something with friends always more fun!
