Delancey Street, based out of San Francisco, is a nationally recognized residential self-help organization for former substance abusers, ex-convicts, and homeless. The amazing part is that Delancey Street is completely run by the residents themselves. All money raised from their businesses is funneled into the community, and each resident receives all necessities at no cost (food, housing, clothing, education, entertainment and all other services). Their most recognized enterprises include: restaurant, cafe/bookstore, moving company, and the seasonal Christmas tree lot.
