“The problem in Colombia is not the lack of resources, but the lack of means to give them to the people” told me a marketing teacher one day. This can’t be more true. This statement make me realize that the malnutrition in Colombia is not the consequence of not having enough food, but it was due to the lack of a system to carry this food to the communities at a low price and to teach them what is good for their health, because most of the common diseases are due to bad nutritional habits.
The community nutrition centeris a project that will educate people in order to have good nutritional habits and will solve the problem of distribution channels of healthy food, to give them the opportunity to change their life style into a healthier one.
The community nutrition center consists of a place that has several areas:
·A kitchen: in which people can come and cook healthy meals with fresh ingredients.
·A food store room:to store the food in a safe place.
·A dinning room: because eating is an activity that must be done in an exclusive place in order to eat consciously and receive all the food benefits.
·A recreation area (it can be the same dinning room): where people can come and learn more about healthy nutritional habits. The idea is to teach this knowledge through the experience of food either,with the food preparation or during a healthy meal. This is the best way to learn and have a good time!
·Community restaurant: if people don’t have the time or the resources to cook they can buy a meal at a low price. They will be saving money at the same time they know they are eating healthy food.
·Nutritionist consultation: people with specific health problems can come and have a free consultation with a nutritionist.
·A garden: the vegetables that grow here are organic and can be used to cook healthy meals.
