Giving them clouds... willbe

"If you give people fish, they won't be able to fish as time goes by". So what if we teach Caldas kids in a "game mode" all that can make them solve their own problems?. When they become adults, they, internally will be able to autoproduce and have the sensibility to respond to their own needs. And who are the ones that will teach them? University students during their social service, using a lot of resources from the sponsorship companies.

willbe centers in the moment when university students has to do a social service, so we take advantage of all their knowledge and ideas to transform the problems in Caldas. They do a residency there, so as they began to observe and execute, Caldas kids in the willbe school begin to learn all the know-how the student have. 

Kids see all as a game, and teachers encourage them to dream, ideate and learn from the outsiders, so they can make Caldas a better place when they grow up.

All the resources as food, construction materials, technology, etc., are given by the sponsorship companies.

How do you envision this idea making money?

If we solve health problems, people in Caldas will be able to think about creating. All the knowledge will be a produce of the kids as they grow up, so they'll be specialists in how to attend that kind of social needs. So, as time goes by, they'll have skills to transform all the resources they get from their own town.... and as every society, when you have food to eat and education, people begin to think "ok, so what's next?". That's when we create a national WILLBE project to attend every city in need, and who better to teach other kids than the ones that were kids in Caldas.

How does this idea create social impact, particularly around improving health?

Health is not only physical, so WILLBE will create a broad benefit: 1. We create attention from young people (universitu students) so they know vividly what is happening in Caldas (otherness health) 2. We give the chance to this students to innovate, create by all the resources that sponsors give (creativity health) 3. We give kids in Caldas an opportunity to have food (physical health), an opportunity to care for it and make it grow (otherness health) 4. We give kids in Caldas an opportunity to learn from the "outside", so they can renew their dreams (mental health) 5. Kids will be able to play, be constructive and interact (psychosocial health) 6. And in years time, we create more productive adults (integral health)

How does this idea add social value at every step of the process?

a. It will tend a bridge between people in the cities and people in the countryside (people who has and people who has not). b. It will focus on children (future's potential). c. It will make people autosufficient in the long term. d. It will keep kids occupied, instead of being idler. e. It will show the people a new model (students as models for kids). f. It will produce new tech, specially designed to Caldas. g. It will make the students sensible of people in need. h. It will sent a precedent for developing other zones that has the same problems as Caldas (health)

What are the short term steps we could take to implement this idea tomorrow?

- Develop a model for social service in universities - Approach schools and companies (so they begin to use their resources creatively) - Facilitate security for students moving to Caldas (not as a 5 star hotel, but to make sure they return home safetly). - Develop guideliness of what will be the basic nutrition of the kids - Build spaces in Caldas for animals (hens, cows, etc ) using resources from companies

Sergio, nice concept. I have been running a kind of similar project for 5 years asking global youth (10-15 years) what they dream about for the future.They discuss and draw their dreams and share them with a global community through exhibitions. I can testify that your idea works: I have asked more than 2500 youth in 20 countries so far, and some incredible projects have emerged out of workshops we have had.

Building resilience in children growing up in less fortunate situations, is crucial for their well-being!

A few years ago I took a mini-training in Resilence, and I love it. And know you mention it and it sounds so crucial. I've never thought about resilence in my concept, but it's underneath. Thanks for pointing it out!!!

Hey Meena, you're totally right. I think that the romantic suite of this is that people that are not really in need as students, will get more sensible and maybe in the course of time, when students are entrepeneurs, they could think of something else for the people in need. An who else to get the full benefits than kids, the ones that will continue on this verge when they grow older.

This whole idea came out here in Mexico, where I live, seeing how students are not fully given quests (specially during their 6 months social service), but people companies always ask them "mmm, what is your experience?". So, it's a beautiful way of earning experience and helping people out. Students there, willbe fully open to do what they want, and I presume that will make better and more sensible professionals.
