Train community members to provide off-site business services, from fielding calls to data entry, for domestic and international corporations.
Building off the success of call centers in India and initiatives such as
Samasource, Caldas Business Services will provide a livelihood for local residents while connecting them through telecommunications to markets throughout the country and beyond.

Local people in Caldas, with the proper training and equipment, could provide back-office services to businesses in Colombia and beyond. This would create decent jobs suitable for women that are not agriculture-dependent. In addition to the middle-class job creation, the project would strengthen the connections, both telephonically and socially, between Caldas and the larger society. Caldas Business Services could offer its services across the Spanish-speaking business world at very competitive rates.
How do you envision this idea making money?
By charging competitive rates for call center, data entry and other back-office services to larger corporations.
How does this idea create social impact, particularly around improving health?
This provides respectable jobs that don't involve hard physical labor, harmful chemicals or unsanitary conditions. In addition, they will be educating a whole class of people and increasing access to information. With increased telecommunications links, other concepts such as telemedicine will be facilitated.
How does this idea add social value at every step of the process?
It lets the local community provide for itself by creating white-collar jobs that fulfill a need in the business to business market. It educates women and other workers and increases the communications connections between Caldas and other parts of the country and beyond.
What are the short term steps we could take to implement this idea tomorrow?
Set up a computer center where data entry and transcription services could be provided. Further off in the future, create a call center for fielding calls for off-site businesses.
