Today's New York Times article about Massachusetts doctors prescribing vegetables to kids in danger of obesity and it's related health risks is definitely an inspiration. Doctors's give coupons redeemable at local farmer's markets where kids can use them to buy vegetables and fruits. This practice exposes kids to fruits and vegetables that they might not otherwise have tried and it also hopefully replaces some of the snacks and sugary drinks that they would normally be eating.

We also have a program where some cities in Massachusetts will double food stamp (SNAP) money at Farmer's Markets (up to a point). It's an excellent incentive to buy real food!
