Retailers could develop a program which link their loyalty card with Jamie initiative. By doing so retailers could communicate on their social responsibility. Parents will get an incentive to purchase fresh food since they get extra discount, extra bonus linked to their loyalty card if they purchase fresh and healthy food and/or foodstuffs to cook Jamie's recipe. Jamie recipe will be given for a week with the foodstuffs needed to cook in the folder.
Kids will have an incentive to eat fresh food by receiving a gift that parents will receive when they purchase fresh food. we could imagine that kids receive some cards every time that they purchase fresh and healthy food with their parents. I have posted some pictures of a similar action performed by a store in Belgium (Delhaize). It was a great success my kids were asking for the Pixar cards and exchanged them at school. At some parties organized by our friends parents were ask to bring kids cards to exchange them with each other. This was fun.... Parents were also exchanging the cards at workplace.
During the operation 2.3 million cards were distributed (press article in french sorry http://www.lameuse.be/regions/liege/2009-09-08/liege-cartes-pixar-veritable-phenomene-725534.shtml). Parents received a pocket of 5 cards for every purchase of 20€ in the store. Our kids were always asking when we go to buy foodstuffs...

Age of kids. The solutions to changing kids’ eating behaviors will vary depending on their age. What works for a toddler won’t necessarily fly for a teenager, although we suspect some concepts might be appropriate for all ages—even adults! Which age bracket does your concept address (tick all relevant boxes)?

  • Pre-school (Tots) 2-4
  • Elementary (Kids) 5-10
  • Middle school (Tweens) 11-13
  • High school (Teens) 14 -18
  • Young adults 18-21

This is a great idea as surely the problem isn't that the kids to know right from wrong choices as it has to come from the parents knowing that their are viable options instead of chips / processed food... etc?
