Create an healthy avatar

Children would create an avatar on their likeness and be responsible for its health in a virtual world. Time would be compressed to show the affects of diet over a lifetime.

Children could create an avatar in the likeness of themselves. This is a little like the "Tomaguchi" phenomenon back in the late eighties. They have to maintain the health of this avatar via the computer, mobile phone, etc. The health of this avatar would be exaggerated because of the time compression to allow the user to see the benefits and the liabilities of eating foods, exercise. This avatar will communicate to the "owner" via text and chat messages. Vital signs such as weight, blood sugar, cholesterol level, are monitored before and after meals in a "Second Life" environment and their health, good or bad, would affect their ability to function. The avatars have access to all the fresh and processed food that the child would have in their "real" world and the aging of the avatar is much faster than its human host. Normal physical and mental life activities such as work and play would be monitored, an example, not being able to sit in a seat in a movie theater because the avatar is too fat.

Age of kids. The solutions to changing kids’ eating behaviors will vary depending on their age. What works for a toddler won’t necessarily fly for a teenager, although we suspect some concepts might be appropriate for all ages—even adults! Which age bracket does your concept address (tick all relevant boxes)?

  • Middle school (Tweens) 11-13
  • High school (Teens) 14 -18

Hurdles to success. Helping kids make smarter food choices comes with a variety of hurdles that have to be addressed in order for a design solution to be successful, which of these do you think that your Concept overcomes (tick all relevant boxes)?

  • Peer Pressure
