The following is the story of one of my friends:

Hello, my name is Frank Whitaker. Currently, I am an Senior studying Business Administration at Oral Roberts University. I have experienced several amounts of obstacles due to the financial burden of attending Oral Roberts University. Coming out of high school, I took the ACT twice. Both scores were below the ACT grade needed to receive a scholarship from Oral Roberts University. I was informed that I could not attend Oral Roberts University unless I completed The Bridge Program and financed my education using external resources. My parents have had to cover the entire cost related to attending ORU including: textbooks & materials, Room and Board and much more. Overall, I believe there should be other alternative forms to cover my education besides using my parents’ finances. I am hoping the currently educational system will experience some drastic reforms.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

The journey into higher education should be a time where young adults gain financial independence from their parents, not a time where their parents are spending more on their children than they ever have before.
