Choosing a School is Stressful!

The emotional context for our solutions is one of anxiety.

After reading a dozen or so interview posts, I noticed a theme: Nobody waltzes into higher education. Low-income students stress about money. High-income students stress about getting into the right school. (See for instance this excellent post into the trials of a wealthy applicant from Long Island.) Many students are leaving home. Some are worried about how their family will provide without their work and income.

This observation corroborates with data that show beginning school is one of life's most stressful events—and one of the first such events a young person will experience.

The emotional state of the user has design implications, so it should be understood.

Note: I included this post in Mission 3: Interview Someone because I based it on reading several interviews.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

Design ideas should take into consideration the emotional context into which they'll be deployed: users are in a state of stress.

Great contribution! I think what you are saying is totally true. When you are stressed you don't think in a clear way, maybe some support would be amazing when taking a major decision.

I found others barriers when trying to attend school it may be of your interest!
