This program may be a useful model to think about in terms of making higher education a more accessible possibility for students who may not be considering it at all. Although this is not a strictly financial model, the African Leadership Academy brings students from all over the continent, regardless of their financial background, between the ages of 16-19 to gain the skills, experiences, and resources to apply to higher education programs. They offer scholarships and large financial packages so that students from all socio-economic-backgrounds are eligible to join the program. It's proven to be extremely successful in providing students with professional, social, and academic experiences to appropriately prepare them for college and help them realize that it is a possible next step.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

Consider the development of a transitionary program like the ALA that would offer a model to educate students about the resources and opportunities available in higher ed, both financial and otherwise, to increase its accessibility and possibility. From this program, ALA students have accepted over $65M in university scholarships who may not have known about those opportunities or applied at all.
