Who is the target audience for your idea and how does it reimagine the cost of college?

Target audience are low income students who can't afford college tuition in higher learning, this is very cost effective solution because students who live near by communities where is learning center will have access to the college education, this will cut some expenses such as accommodation, travel, insurance, meals etc.

Learning Center should be an institution which recognized by government as academic institution which offers programs equivalent to undergraduate degree.

A cost effective solution for higher learning  which will increase access to higher education among economically disadvantaged students.

This is the way of using online learning content (MOOCs materials) to bring innovative solution which increase access to college among low income students.

Setting up learning centers which recognized by Government as academic institution which will offer  undergraduate degrees in different programs.

  1.   Setting administrative structure similar to traditional college with few  staff  including academic expats and e-learning specialists(e-learning facilitators) which will helps with learning methodologies.
  1.  Equip each student with  learning tools such as PC,  books, Internet connection, Lab simulation tools, lab equipment tools, and  setting up discussion forum within the learning centers and creating meetups groups beyond learning centers, for fostering learning collaboration in order to bring about  social dimensions similar to brick and mortar colleges.
  1. Partnering with MOOCs providers: This is to say forming a partnership with education technology companies like Coursera, edx, Udacity etc. for courses provision in the form agreement between two parties i.e our learning centers and education technology companies.
  1.  Language learning program: This is way of teaching language of instruction  prior for student could join college program because most courses are taught in English for case  of students where by  English language is their second language.
  1. Partnering with local employers(companies and organizations) for offering internship to students after course completion.
  1. Getting certified or approval from government accreditation boards for  college equivalency  relevant to local or top  tier universities.
  1.     Bringing up course instructors and university curriculum developers to design course equivalent to 3- 4 years college degree program.
  1.     Last but certainly not least setting up course duration, and building a sustainable business model around solution or search for donors to push forward the project  because this sound like non-profit kind of business.

What early, lightweight experiment can you try out in your own community to find out if the idea will meet your expectations?

Not yet proven, but it must work because putting administrative structure with few staff and e-learning specialists and creating meet ups groups among learners this will foster collaboration among learners. This will motivate students to share learning experiences like any brick and motor colleges as a result of learning effectiveness .

What skills, input or guidance from the OpenIDEO community would be most helpful in building out or refining your idea?

Getting expertise in the area of Human Centered Design I know this the area they are most capable of to understand the really need of people who intended for this solution.
Getting network of expats in the area of academia, e-learning, and technologists in order to build the solution.

Working on building sustainable business model around this solution so as can be accessible for low income students

Hi Kibogora, Alex here from the Path to Pitching, cool idea! Have you done any low-fidelity prototyping yet? You could set up interviews with Mooc companies and accreditation institutions. If you're interested in pitching to the accelerators you will need to get out there soon and start getting feedback on your idea as problem/customer validation is important. Our milestones are a great roadmap of what you'll need to be pitch ready:

Thank you Alex, do you accept paper prototype using Human Centered Design approach?

I took a great MOOC on Coursera called "Learning how to Learn". This course teaches people how to harness their brain power and learn effectively! I highly recommend checking it out, I believe it is the most attended MOOC on Coursera. The reason why I mention this is because it has become a community itself. We have weekly emails from the course instructor and many students have started to meet up that took the course or are taking the course. Maybe there is an opportunity to talk to these instructors regarding your proposal? They probably learned a lot in how to create an effective course!

Rhett!! thanks for your recommendation I took the course early this year, what I can say it's the masterpiece and I think to reach out to the course instructors is a good idea as well.I hope to take this course  again when it will be on session, I have been studying online for almost three years since I came across with MOOCs. Are you participating on openideo Higher Ed challenge ?

Wonderful! Glad to hear. So far my participation is from the sidelines, trying to inspire others. Some great ideas out there!
