We all know the importance of living healthy lives, and inspired by "A Healthy Textsation" post by Vanessa Garcia, I asked my Facebook friends what resources have helped them on their health journey.  For me, the road to being healthy has had many twists and turns and I am working on trying to be consistent and holistic with mind, body and spirit.  I find I have been the healthiest when I do little things to take care of myself.  Things like sleeping, meditating, praying or simply going for a walk seem simple but when I do them consistently I can see the difference.  I also notice the difference it makes when I choose smaller portions or eat half of what I am served in a restaurant, or simply skip the dessert.  And I remember being at my healthiest when I participated in the Rock and Roll half marathon with some friends.  I was so proud when I finished it. I had set a goal and pushed myself to accomplish it.

With ages ranging from early twenties to late sixties, the resources my Facebook friends shared were surprisingly similar.  A summary below by category:

Technology:
My Fitness Pal and UP band

Tradition:
My mom's nutritious simple meals with seasonal local produce

Mind & Spirit:
Meditation, Reflection, writing and visualizing your goals and purpose

Body, Activity & Exercise:
Yoga, Ice Dance, Sports competition, Spinning, Running

Eating Healthy:
smaller portions, weight watchers

I was struck by how quickly responses came in, and I realized we do not talk about health as much or as often as we should.  Ultimately, the secret lies in balance:  Eat healthy, meditate & pray, and exercise.

And communicate!  Share your health secrets with friends and family.   My latest secret:  a great health initiative I am working on with Telemundo- Prevention is Life.  Learn more at www.preventionislife.com
