What challenges or opportunities are you trying to address within the problem? (200 characters or less)

A cross sectional study on osteoporosis in Nigeria showed a point prevalence of 43.7% and 65.8% in males and females respectively aged 60 years and above with lack of education being of the factors.

Effective awareness and sensitization on osteoporosis at community and hospital level will go a long way in identifying at risk individuals in the community level and hospitals. When you are not informed, they say you are deformed. One of the predisposing factor to re occurrence of osteoporosis fracture or for an individual to be  at risk is lack of access to information about osteoporosis.   This can be achieved by targeting communities with proven evidence of poor access health information and carrying out context analysis of the best channels of receiving information that is effective to them.

Who is your target end user and why will they be interested? (650 characters or less)

My target end users are older adults at risk of osteoporosis and those that have experienced osteoporosis before. Creating a health awareness campaign is an effective way to prevent the spread of diseases affecting people For example, community members can help prevent osteoporosis by creating positive environments for people at risk of osteoporosis or already have suffered it by spreading the right information throughout the community. They will be interested in the awareness session because the rising cases of osteoporosis is alarming and disheartening. People are always mindful of their health and especially what they hear about their health. Hearing plays a vital role in how individuals experience, interact with, and relate to the people and environment around them. Hearing is sometimes referred to as the “social sense” because of its function in developing and maintaining intimate relationships and social connections with family, friends, coworkers, and acquaintances.

How is your idea scaleable? (650 characters or less)

This idea is scaleable because the awareness raising is going to; Work with respected community members to plan and conduct the awareness campaign, including local decision makers, religious leaders, traditional healers, midwives and other individuals in the health care field. Identify existing community groups and institutions working on osteoporosis or similar health issues and learn about the work they already are doing that could contribute to awareness raising and assess their reputation in the community to decide if they can contribute positively to my campaign. Find out how people learn and to whom they listen. Find out what motivates the intended audience and what is important to them. How are health messages best conveyed? Who conveys them? Is a radio campaign a good idea to spread information?

What do/will you measure to know if your solution worked? (500 characters or less)

1. Compare the baseline values of knowledge about osteoporosis over a defined period of time. 2. Compare the baseline values of those who go to hospital for osteoporosis check up 3. Compare the baseline values of those who suffered osteoporosis fracture and never suffered it again after a defined period of time.
