Prevention of fall in elderly

Fall is a major cause of repeated fracture in elder, reduction of fall is sure to reduce incidence of fall.

What challenges or opportunities are you trying to address within the problem? (200 characters or less)

fall is a common occurrence among elder and it account for about 70 % of fracture of head femur. we wish to reduce by education and home rearrangement the incidence of fall

The program is divided in to three steps

They are education, community reintegration and community re arrangement. The three step are post discharge measure to make sure the old citizen do not experience fall frequently.

Education: on discharge of elder from care center they should be educated about the risk of fall and it effect on their bone and fracture site. They should be

Community rearrangement: home and immediate environment of discharged old citizen should be assessed and either be rearranged or reconstruct to remove object or structures that are likely to cause impediment during mobility around the house.

Community reintegration: the stamina of old citizen and daily activities will be assess. Activities that they carried on weight bearing position should be reteach on how to carry them out while sitting or lying down. Many activities will be relearn on how to perform them while first putting a sport base around or expanding their own base of support.

Who is your target end user and why will they be interested? (650 characters or less)

the idea was set for pensioners, the were thought fall and how to prevent it. follow up for six month on the episode of fall, the incident of fall reduce greatly. doctor and community physiotherapist should adopt this method often.

How is your idea scaleable? (650 characters or less)

these idea is a low budget idea, its mostly based on education and re-modification or re-arrangement of homes .

What do/will you measure to know if your solution worked? (500 characters or less)

- number of fall incidence report to the hospital per week. - number of accident from fall monthly - quality of life of older citizen

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Prototype: We have done some small tests or experiments with prospective users to continue developing the idea.

  • I want my idea piloted, and I prefer to do my own piloting in collaboration with the health system and with assistance from the Challenge partner
