What challenges or opportunities are you trying to address within the problem? (200 characters or less)

Diagnosis may be the hardest part in the process, yet is the most important step. Addressing this issue is key in the fight against osteoporosis.

A one page questionnaire in the waiting room to all patients 50 or older. Required or mandatory by insurance companies will ensure doctors follow the requirement. The focus is prevention. Insurance companies can request patients to take the questionnaire to prevent further medical expenses to both, insurances and patients. Prevention is the key in  this challenge. How can we create awareness of the prevention element and encourage people to take the questionnaire even when they maybe not apparent signs of osteoporosis. Just like a physical every year this questionnaire should be the norm for everyone over 50.

This process should be mandatory from insurance companies and the healthcare provided by the government, unfortunately without this key element care facilities may be inclined not to provide the questionnaire.

In immediate care facilities of emergency rooms this questionnaire should be given to every patient that comes with a broken bone over the age of 50, a report should be sent to the primary care physician for a follow up.

Campaigning for this questionnaire, on social media and television may help to make this questionnaire more popular and have patients ask for it at doctor’s offices.

The center of my idea is the questionnaire and how we can make it easily and readily available to everyone for prevention purposes.

As of today I have not found a commercial on TV, radio, or social media targeting this problem. More exposure to the questionnaire and the benefits will enhance awareness of issue.

Who is your target end user and why will they be interested? (650 characters or less)

Manly under served communities that depend on Medicaid or Medicare for health care. People with private insurance not offered through employment. Anyone over 50 years of age. Insurance companies should also see the benefit of prevention, again reducing cost to both the patient and the insurance company.

How is your idea scaleable? (650 characters or less)

Once primary care physicians and facilities are familiar with the questionnaire and are continuously providing it to patients. This information can be provided to the physician who can make the decision to order a bone density test. Streamlining the process is important. Care personnel have already much data to sort through and providing a user friendly application can minimize the impact on their workload so care facilities are more willing to implement and offer this to all patients. There is a online questionnaire already, however the results are available to patient only, how can we rely this information to the primary care physician?

What do/will you measure to know if your solution worked? (500 characters or less)

If an application to provide a questionnaire is available there is the possibility to track the data to find out how many patients at risk had a bone density test after the questionnaire. From there to be able to report back how many at risk patients who took the questionnaire experience more fractures and why, whether they were in a osteoporosis treatment or not at the time of the fractures.

What is the current stage of development of your idea?

  • Blueprint: We are exploring the idea and gathering the inspiration and information we need to test it with real users.

If you were to become a Top Idea, would you want to actively participate in piloting your idea?

  • I want my idea piloted, but I’d prefer not to be involved in the pilot and prefer that the health system adopts my idea for piloting with assistance from the Challenge partner

I really like your idea of the questionnaire and I see that there are sections where you could add more details. Please do so soon.
Please make any last minute tweaks you wish to, asap. Like adding images or changes in text.
The DEADLINE for idea submission is Wednesday July 3rd, 2019 5pm PST.

A CHECKLIST to guide you is here:
Please make sure your idea does the following:
1) Clearly define the problem
2) Connects to at least one opportunity area
3) States how & when user accesses the solution
4) Tells the story

Let me know if you need anything.
All the best for the next phase of the challenge.
