In the middle of a hectic period involving lots of employee turnover and unique issues arising at work, a coworker of mine took time out of her own schedule over the course of the past month to continually help another lab that was transitioning to a new system without a lab manager. Without the help of my coworker, the experiments and research that many people in the lab work on would have come to a grinding halt, affecting everyone from the professor in charge to the undergraduates trying to get college credit. After working with her for several years, it is clear how committed she is to doing her job well on a daily basis as well as helping those around her in any way she can. Last week she received a university ("thumbs up") award commending her for her excellent work, after being nominated by someone from the lab that she had been helping. It is awesome to work in an environment where you know your hard work will not go unnoticed and you are truly appreciated for the things you do for the people around you.
