Rehana is a corporate manager for an International, IT company working in Austin. In her opinion, gratitude plays an important role in motivating her to do her job well. She usually receives this from her direct supervisor, the director of her division but sometimes other mangers, account executives and customers also appreciate her for her work. There are two main ways she receives gratitude. The first is a personal shout out from whoever is appreciating her during the All Hands meeting for her company’s Texas division. Being personally thanked in this setting with this audience really boosts her morale. The second way she receives gratitude is through an email appreciation that is sent to the account executives and HR representatives for the Texas division. These emails play a major role in bonus considerations.
As a manager, Rehana also expresses gratitude to her team. Not only does she mirror the practices that boost her morale, such as the shout outs on the company call and the email appreciations, but also tries to make small gestures to show her gratitude. She makes it a point to compliment her employees in person as well as in front of her supervisor. She also uses her team member’s quarterly evaluations to show gratitude by recommending them for bonuses when they have performed exceedingly well.
