Noticing the Present and Your Surroundings

With everyone's ongoing busy lives, just take a minute or two to be aware of the physical sensation and environment around you!

Transitioning into young adulthood, career, lifestyle, or a new life episode is exciting but may sometimes create tension and newfound stressors into your daily life. Take a few minutes out of your day (I know it will hurt you and you have SO much you still have to do!!) to step outside for a leisurely stroll! Please leave your phone, watches, and any electronic devices at home. Be aware of your surroundings and take your time as there is no end destination for this activity. I just want more people to be grateful of the environment surrounding them even if you don't really care about nature. Hopefully you get to appreciate the beauty of plants, trees, or building details you haven't seen before!

I have learned much of this practice through my contemplative studies course that has emphasized focusing on the present and ignoring details in your life that had or will happen. One account of this happening occurred during one of my session of studying for prolonged hours. I tend to doze off if I don't reach my threshold for coffee. However, sitting meditation and becoming cognizant of my body's resting state and thinking about how my body actually feels while closing my eyes helps me rejuvenate-- the science behind it is unknown but awareness of surroundings may help you out too!

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

Feeling anxious or stressed and need a change of pace!
