As part of the OpenIDEO Barcelona chapter we conducted interviews with locals and built user profiles.

Jordi is a social worker from Barcelona and he is around 50 years old. He used to feel really aligned in terms of values with his team and within the company. As time went by, everything changed: the hierarchy, the management...Suddenly, there was a lot of distance between the employees and the management. Even though he tried hard to keep being grateful, it didn't work and he now feels cynical about the situation. ACtually, he even wants to change his job since for him it's really important to see a consistency between his values and the values of the company he is working for. Only this way he could feel grateful again.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

The importance of closing the values gap internally between employees and high level management, as well as inside out, that is between what a company communicates externally and what it actually does internally for his people.

Tell us about yourself

I conducted this interview as part of a team within the BCN chapter, we all were workers with different backgrounds. This variety definitely enriched our experience.

The insights from your interview are true but aren't ever really focused on. Most people might think there's no problem of misaligned values once they work for a company that have similar values as them. However, your interview emphasized that those values may change over time which affects all of the employees in that organization. For employees to appreciate the contribution of other employees then they must first support their organization's mission and values.
