An example of an organization that I am apart of on my campus at the University of Michigan that tries to facilitate a culture of gratitude is the Science Learning Community. I am a one of the many study group leaders for various science classes on campus. As a study group leader I facilitate a group of students outside of class in organic chemistry. In previous years I’ve had various students email and tell me how grateful they are to be a member of my study group and how its has helped them succeed in the class. Additionally each member is required to fill out a survey at the end of the year explaining what worked well in the study group and things I did that helped them to best learn the material. Their responses are later sent me, where I can read about their appreciation. Hearing about their appreciation and gratitude makes me want to continue teaching study groups and helps me to improve in the future.
