We organize an event on "Empathize for Workplace Gratitude" for the research phase of this challenge in two parts at Ahmedabad, India. As a results of this workshop various important insights, we gather from our participants and their research through interviews, quiz, stories are as below:

For invoking gratitude, organizations need to provide the culture and environment that would inspire people to express it, when they feel grateful to others. It should be rooted in the vision of the company to make their employees happy and act as a family. Gratitude only be expressed when someone done the work beyond their routine work when someone putting extra efforts or going out of the way to complete the work. At the same time, boss needs to identify such people who put extra efforts as he/she cannot take their work as granted every time. People would only feel grateful when someone did something without expectations, unconditional.

I am assistant professor at one of the largest state university in India. Our Vice Chancellor who recently joined the university in January, 2017 made a practice of celebrating the birthday of an employee of university by gifting him/her a book. He calls the employee to his office and wish him/her and gift the book. Also he makes sure that the book is in interest of the employee. By this small virtue of gifting, everyone feels great as this make their birthday special as receiving gift from Vice Chancellor of the university.

Success and happiness require lots of efforts by team, but gratitude becomes jewel in the crown when expressed by teammates or boss.

What is a provocation or insight that might inspire others during this challenge?

Having spent the major time of the day at workplace, people seek the balance between professional, personal and social life. If their work would not be recognized and appreciated by boss or colleague then they will be demotivated and which in turn harm the image and productivity of organizations. In such conditions, people just pass their time at work unproductively. So this challenge provokes the global community to find the honest way to express and experience the gratitude at workplace.
