The importance of communicating our gratitude to one another is crucial in recognizing the value of each member of a team.

Speaking from personal experiences, I know that in my clinical research team, we have various initiatives that are meant to express gratitude among us team members. One initiative is the “star system”. This system is allows one co-worker to express their gratitude to another by writing a personalized thank you note and posting it in the office bulletin board. This action of gratitude allows each member to specifically acknowledge each other’s contributions to the team. Another general initiative that many organizations, including my own, utilize to express gratitude are birthday celebrations. Typically, there is a celebration and all team members pitch in to purchase a card that thanks the team member for their valuable service to the team. This action of gratitude is significant because it acknowledges and values the worker as both a person and an asset to the team.
