In my college, I am in Alpha Phi Omega. APO is a co-ed service fraternity with over 300 Brothers. In an organization this large, it can be challenging to show gratitude towards Brothers for a job well done. One of the things we do in chapter is called "Brother Of The Month." The way this works is Brothers nominate each other to be honored as "Brother Of The Month." They write a paragraph about what the Brother has done to receive this recognition. Usually those who are nominated have gone above and beyond in either service, friendship, or leadership in the fraternity (these are our three pillars). We announce the name in Chapter, read the anonymous paragraph submitted about them, give them a small prize, and applaud them for their hard work. A simple feat like this goes a long way to reassure Brothers that their efforts do not go unnoticed.
I would have liked to say that someone on EBoard came up with the idea of Brother Of The Month as I am on EBoard and would love to be a part of a great initiative like this. However, it was one of our Brothers that thought to do this. This makes me even more proud of my fraternity because Brothers are going out of their way to acknowledge other Brothers. In my opinion, small actions like this is what makes APO the supportive and respected fraternity it is.
