Zen N 10 is the new addition to staff meetings. Every company has them so why not add a new value.

Because it can be difficult to express gratitude in a fast-paced, high-stress work environment Zen N 10 makes it easy.

For the first 5 min colleagues will "arrive" to the meeting. You might be asking what does "arrive" mean? It means becoming fully present in the moment. Arriving is 5 min of meditation, breathing, eyes closed, and re-connection with self.

After those 5 min of "arriving" colleagues will feel more relaxed and closer to each other. The feeling of compassion will allow for greater ease of expressing appreciation and gratitude for one another.

When one takes care of themselves they are far better at giving and receiving from one another.

Meditation does not discriminate; therefore it matches with every workplace culture.

Adding Zen N Ten to the start of staff meetings will facilitate genuine feelings and expressions of gratitude.

How the Idea will inspire the experience and expression of gratitude within an organization.

Instead of creating another task for employees to do, Zen N 10, provides employees an experience that not only improves their well being and compassion but allows them to give and receive it.

Who are you innovating for?

The whole organization will benefit from Zen N 10. By providing this 10 min employees will feel more appreciation in return have greater job satisfaction. Happy Employees = Successful Organization

What type of workplaces are you innovating for?

Meditation does not discriminate; therefore it can match with every workplace culture.

How you envision the Idea being introduced to your selected organization?

This will be implemented from the top down. Leaders, managers, and project leads will utilize Zen N Ten layout to facilitate in every staff meeting. Start with one company who is open to new ideas of improving overall well-being of their employees. Companies that are pouring money into employee wellness programs would seem open to trying this.

What obstacles, if any, do you foresee in implementing this Idea, and how would they be overcome?

Initially allocating 10 min of meetings to this might seem stressful. But once implemented one will see the benefit to giving ones self a mindfulness break.

How will you test and prototype your solution?

Prototyping will take place in staff meetings and by provide valuable feedback to the Zen N 10 experience.

What immediate next steps will you take if you receive an implementation grant.

1. Find a company open to trying Zen N 10 in their staff meetings. 2. Design the instructional unit for easy implementation 3. Star the prototyping

Individual idea and exploration for my MFA in Design Thinking.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Jocelyn Stephens, I am currently working on my MFA in Design Thinking. Since starting, I have been trying to immerse myself in as many new experiences. I am drawn to the topics of meditation and exploring topics for my thesis. I worked with college students in a mindfulness class and the most powerful thing I witnessed was the "arrival" to class. Which is were my idea came from.

I worked in higher education fundraising, and recently left to pursue my MFA in Design Thinking full time. OpenIDEO has been a wonderful source of inspiration!

Great to see you in the Ideas Phase of the Challenge! I'm curious about what would incentivize people to participate in this initiative?

Hi Lauren,

It would be an added component to already existing staff meetings. So the incentive would be having 5 min of quiet time before the start of every meeting and 5 min after to reflect. With peoples hearts and minds open greater compassion will exist. :)
